Is There Such a Thing as Ethical Mind Reading & Mentalism?

Can mind reading ever be really ethical?

This is a bit controversial and many working psychics I’m sure will splutter at the mere suggestion. All I ask is you don’t put a voodoo curse on me.

I’m writing about the ethics of being a mind reader and what you basically claim to be able to do. The basis of being a mind reader or mentalist is making people believe that you have certain special abilities. Whether it be abnormal psychological abilities being able to uncannily influence people’s decisions and be able to tell them what they’re thinking by reading their body language, or just plain psychic abilities – literally saying you are reading their mind.

So, why bring ethics into mind reading?

Well, is it ethical to claim you have special abilities? Is it ethical to fool someone into thinking something that isn’t true? My personal opinion is yes and no. I think it depends what you claim and how you use it.

I think it is fine to do it to a point. Like, it’s OK to say you can read people’s minds or influence their choices but when you claim to be an actual psychic and start telling people how to live their lives or speak to their dead grandmother and pass on messages. I think that crosses the line. I basically think clairvoyance is cringe-worthy and immoral.

In my opinion it’s irresponsible to use your knowledge of mentalism and mind reading tricks to fool people into thinking their dead grandparents are communicating to you beyond the grave, or the that you can see the future and tell them what the best decision is to make.

What some ‘psychics’ may consider to be harmless and just a bit of trickery, someone could take literally and make a life changing decision based on a flimsy comment.

Of course there are these psychics who actually believe they have abilities but I’m not too sure. Many who seem to really believe have obviously had some training in cold reading techniques as their skill level is too high for it to be coincidence.

What I would say is use your mind reading and mentalism knowledge carefully because anyone who knows the really good mind reading tricks that I know, understands that you can literally make someone believe anything you want. This gives us all a responsibility to use our skills and knowledge wisely.

To learn how to do mind boggling mentalism tricks and freak out your friends visit mind reading. Be warned, this stuff is really quite powerful.
