Why You Should “Take Your Time” with Your Mind Reading & Mentalism Tricks

If I could give an aspiring mentalist or mind reader one bit of advice whether they had dreams of being famous or just wanted to be able to do some killer tricks to amaze their friends – it would be to “take your time”.
There’s actually more than one way you should “take your time” too. The first is to take your time while learning your new mentalism and mind reading tricks. When you first learn the method of a new trick you will of course get the urge to go straight out and perform to your friends and family without really practicing enough. This is sometimes hard to suppress but it’s one you will not regret “taking your time” with. You should already know now that mentalism and mind reading is all in the performance and the actual method is really not that important. It’s what the spectators see that really matters.
You should always make sure you have a rough script for a trick, so “take your time” in thinking of what you are going to say to make the effect stronger and more believable. “Take your time” in making sure you have the method down to a tee – which includes the misdirection that’s needed to pull it off – and ensure everything is smooth and fits with your persona and claim of special ability.
Secondly, once you have “taken your time” learning the trick – “take your time performing it”. This isn’t a quick fire card trick or visual magic which are a dime a dozen these days and are thrown at spectators by annoying geeks until they’re bored. This is suspense building, mind boggling, emotionally charged mind reading and mentalism. This stuff means so much more to people and should be carefully played out to build up the suspense and plant a seed in the mind of the spectators.
“Take your time” and lead the audience as you pace them slowly and get involved in the trick, until the final revelation.
So here are two ways to “take your time”:
1. “Take your time” learning the tricks – down to every bit of presentation that you do, the script, the method etc.
2. “Take your time” executing the tricks – build up the suspense slowly, this is always better with mind reading and mentalism tricks.
So if you want to create a truly marvelous experience for your audience so they really believe you have some incredible abilities – remember to “take your time..”
