Mentalism is an art of precognition and mind reading. As an art, you should master it through practice. The mind should do the “trick.” But how do you do mentalism?

Here are concrete, simple steps on how to do mentalism:

1. Ask a volunteer from the audience.
2. Give the volunteer the object you want him to hide in another person. It maybe a stack of cash or anything.
3. Leave the stage with a witness while he transfers it to another person.
4. Go back the stage after they have hidden it.
5. Identify where they hid it.

You could identify the person who hid it through a series of cold reads. Your eye should be quick to process facial expressions and the body language of the people inside the venue. The person holding the object would try hard to look indifferent. Observe the reactions also of the other people around. If they appear to avoid looking at the person, then that is already a conclusion that he, indeed, has the goods in his person.

This is another example on how to do mentalism:

1. You ask someone from the audience to blindfold you.
2. You are going to guess the object that your assistant will be holding among the audience.
3. Your assistant goes to the audience and holds object and you identify what it is, even if you are blindfolded.

You could identify the object through a secret code that you and your assistant have developed.

An example of this is when your assistant asks the question: “Can you guess what I’m holding now?” Your code is when your assistant starts the question with “can”; it indicates he is holding car keys.

If he starts the question with the word “what” like in, “What am I holding now?” It indicates that the object is a watch.

There are various ways to “talk” using coded words. How to do mentalism is simple and yet complicated.
